Choosing a Magazine

AICS magazines

AICS is the most common detachable box magazine pattern for centerfire chassis and bottom metal. Match the magazine to your action length (short or long), your cartridge, and any CIP or magnum length requirements. Most centerfire chassis are built around AICS.

Rimfire magazines

Rimfire rifles typically run factory-style magazines. Billet aluminum magazines like L3i and Position7 add capacity and durability for competition, while factory magazines remain a reliable, affordable choice.

Capacity and fit

Higher capacity magazines sit lower and can affect how the rifle rests on a bag or barricade. Check that the magazine clears your stock or chassis, and that your match rules allow the capacity you choose.

Keep them running

Magazine parts like springs, followers and magwells keep feeding reliable, and an extended release makes mag changes faster.

Magazine FAQ

Will AICS magazines work in my chassis?

If your chassis or bottom metal is built for AICS pattern magazines, yes, as long as the magazine matches your action length and cartridge. Each chassis listing notes what it accepts.

What is the difference between short and long action AICS magazines?

Short action magazines fit cartridges like .308 and 6.5 Creedmoor. Long action magazines fit longer cartridges like .300 Win Mag. Some long action magazines are made for CIP length, so match the listing to your action.

Do CZ 455 and 457 magazines interchange?

Many CZ rimfire magazines are listed for several models, such as the CZ 457, 452, 453 and 512. Check the fitment and caliber in each listing before ordering.

Are billet magazines worth it?

For competition, many shooters prefer billet aluminum magazines for added capacity and durability. For casual shooting, factory magazines are a reliable, affordable option.
