The MDT Oryx Sportsman Chassis for Howa 1500 Short Action combines the rigidity and adjustability of a precision rifle chassis with the rugged styling of MDT's factory Olive Drab Green finish.
Designed for right-handed Howa 1500 Short Action rifles, the Oryx features a precision-machined aluminum chassis, integrated V-block bedding, free-floating barrel channel, adjustable buttstock, and modular M-LOK accessory mounting.
Whether you're upgrading a factory Howa 1500, starting with a Howa barreled action, or developing a long-range precision rifle, the Oryx provides a stable, versatile foundation for your build.
Precision Aluminum Chassis & V-Block Bedding
At the heart of the Oryx is its precision-machined 6061 aluminum chassis with integrated V-block bedding.
The rigid aluminum bedding interface supports consistent action positioning without requiring traditional glass bedding, providing a stable alternative to conventional factory stocks.
The free-floating forend helps minimize unwanted barrel contact during supported shooting, while the solid aluminum construction provides excellent resistance to flex.
With a maximum barrel diameter clearance of 1.25 inches, the chassis accommodates a wide variety of factory and aftermarket barrel profiles.
Adjustable Buttstock & Ergonomics
The Oryx features an adjustable cheek riser and length-of-pull system, helping shooters establish a comfortable, repeatable position behind their optic.
Compatibility with AR-15-style pistol grips provides additional options for grip shape and hand positioning.
For more convenient adjustments, the MDT Oryx Tool-Less Cheek Riser Wheels make adjusting the cheekpiece easier without tools.
M-LOK Forend & ARCA Compatibility
The Oryx incorporates M-LOK mounting provisions along the underside of the forend, allowing compatible bipods, rails, and shooting accessories to be attached.
An integrated barricade stop provides a consistent contact point when shooting from supported positions.
For additional flexibility, the chassis supports optional full-length ARCA rails, replacement M-LOK side panels, chassis weights, and sling attachment accessories.
Pete's Pillars manufactures its own Full-Length Oryx ARCA Rail, featuring a continuous ARCA mounting surface and two integrated QD sling cups.
Howa 1500 Short Action Compatibility
This chassis is designed for right-handed Howa 1500 Short Action rifles, including compatible factory rifles and barreled actions.
The Oryx uses compatible short-action AICS-pattern detachable magazines, supporting appropriately configured cartridges such as .308 Winchester and 6.5 Creedmoor.
MDT polymer AICS magazines are recommended for the Howa 1500 platform. Some metal AICS magazines may require fitting due to variations in the magazine and receiver interface.
This configuration is not intended for Howa Mini Action or Long Action rifles, which require their respective chassis inlets.
Factory Olive Drab Green Finish
This configuration features MDT's factory Olive Drab Green (ODG) exterior panels, paired with the chassis's black aluminum backbone, grip, and hardware.
The understated green finish complements traditional hunting and precision rifle configurations while retaining the same construction and accessory compatibility as other factory Oryx colors.
Replaceable exterior panels allow additional customization without changing the aluminum chassis itself.
