Unlike extractors produced using inferior MIM or stamped steel processes, the Exact Edge Extractor is manufactured using a true EDM (Electrical Discharge Machining) process. This allows Volquartsen to hold tolerances to ±0.0001", producing an extractor with a highly precise hook geometry and repeatable fit. Stamped extractors commonly experience edge roll-over under impact, which can quickly lead to extraction failures. The Exact Edge design resists this wear, maintaining a sharp, functional edge over years of use.
Machined from A2 tool steel and heat treated to Rc 58–60, this extractor is built to withstand repeated cycling without losing its edge. It is a direct replacement for Remington part #16176 and installs as a drop-in component when properly fitted.
Fitment is guaranteed only for the Remington 870 and Remington 1100, in both 12 gauge and 20 gauge configurations. While there is some speculation that this extractor may also fit the 878, 11-48, and Model 58, results have been mixed and compatibility with those models is not confirmed.
