The Leupold VX-Freedom 3-9x40 Rimfire is a dedicated rimfire riflescope built around one of the most useful magnification ranges for .22 LR hunting, target shooting, plinking, and precision rimfire rifles.
Unlike a general-purpose centerfire scope, the 174181 is configured specifically for rimfire use with a 60-yard fixed parallax setting and Leupold's purpose-designed Rimfire MOA reticle.
At only approximately 12.2 oz, it provides useful magnification and a 40mm objective without adding unnecessary weight to a CZ 457, Ruger 10/22, or other rimfire build.
A dedicated rimfire optic makes sense when most shooting takes place at the distances common to .22 LR rifles.
Leupold sets the VX-Freedom Rimfire's focus at approximately 60 yards, rather than the longer parallax distance commonly used on centerfire hunting scopes. That makes it better suited to typical rimfire target, hunting, and recreational shooting distances.
The Rimfire MOA reticle gives shooters more useful reference points than a basic duplex without becoming overly busy.
The reticle uses fine MOA hash marks that are particularly useful on smaller rimfire targets. Its markings can be used for holdovers, wind corrections, and repeatable aiming points once you establish the trajectory of your rifle and ammunition.
Because the reticle is not caliber-specific, it can be used with different rimfire cartridges, barrel lengths, and ammunition by confirming the actual drop of your individual rifle.
The combination of moderate weight, 3-9x magnification, and a rimfire-specific reticle makes the VX-Freedom a strong optic for a CZ 457 hunting, target, or general-purpose rimfire rifle.
If you're setting up a CZ 457, pair the optic with one of our CZ 457 Parts & Upgrades, including Pete's Pillars scope rails, bolt upgrades, trigger springs, and other precision-rimfire components.
The VX-Freedom also fits naturally on a Ruger 10/22 where a lightweight conventional riflescope is preferred over a large competition optic.
Its 3x low end keeps the rifle practical for closer targets and hunting, while 9x provides enough magnification for small targets and more deliberate rimfire shooting.
Browse our Ruger 10/22 Parts & Upgrades for barrels, stocks, action parts, trigger components, and Pete's Pillars upgrades.
The VX-Freedom is built around Leupold's Advanced Optical System for useful light transmission, glare reduction, contrast, and resolution in changing field conditions.
The one-piece 6061-T6 aluminum maintube keeps the optic lightweight while maintaining the rugged construction expected from a Leupold riflescope.
