The MDT Oryx Sportsman Chassis for Howa 1500 Short Action brings the rigidity, adjustability, and versatility of a precision rifle chassis to the popular Howa 1500 platform.
Featuring MDT's factory Black finish, the Oryx combines a precision-machined aluminum chassis, integrated V-block bedding, adjustable buttstock, free-floating barrel channel, and modular M-LOK accessory mounting.

Precision Aluminum Chassis & V-Block Bedding
The foundation of the MDT Oryx is its precision-machined 6061 aluminum chassis with integrated V-block bedding.
The rigid bedding interface supports consistent action positioning without requiring traditional glass bedding. Unlike conventional factory stocks that may flex under pressure, the Oryx provides a substantial structural foundation for the barreled action.
Its free-floating barrel channel helps minimize unwanted contact between the forend and barrel during supported shooting.
With clearance for barrels up to 1.25 inches in diameter, the chassis accommodates a wide selection of factory Howa 1500 and aftermarket barrel profiles.
Adjustable Buttstock & Ergonomics
The Oryx features an adjustable cheek riser and length-of-pull system, allowing shooters to establish a comfortable, repeatable position behind their optic.
The adjustable length of pull measures approximately 13–13.5 inches, with additional adjustment available through optional spacers.
Compatibility with standard AR-15-style pistol grips provides additional flexibility in hand positioning, while the included grip offers a comfortable interface for precision rifle shooting.
For easier cheekpiece adjustments, the MDT Oryx Tool-Less Cheek Riser Wheels provide a convenient alternative to the standard adjustment hardware.
M-LOK Forend & ARCA Compatibility
The Oryx incorporates M-LOK mounting provisions along the underside of the forend, providing an attachment interface for compatible bipods, accessory rails, and other shooting equipment.
An integrated barricade stop offers a consistent contact point during supported shooting.
For shooters who want additional mounting flexibility, the chassis can be expanded with optional full-length ARCA rails, M-LOK side panels, modular weights, and sling attachment accessories.
The Pete's Pillars Full-Length Oryx ARCA Rail provides a continuous ARCA mounting surface along with two integrated QD sling cups.
Howa 1500 Short Action Compatibility
This configuration is designed for right-handed Howa 1500 Short Action rifles, including compatible factory rifles and barreled actions.
The chassis accepts compatible short-action AICS-pattern detachable magazines, making it suitable for appropriately configured cartridges such as .308 Winchester, 6.5 Creedmoor, and other Howa 1500 short-action chamberings.
MDT polymer AICS magazines are recommended for the Howa 1500 platform. Certain metal AICS magazines may require additional fitting due to differences in the Howa receiver and magazine interface.
The Howa Mini Action and Howa Long Action require their respective chassis inlets and are not interchangeable with this Short Action configuration.
