The MDT Oryx Sportsman Chassis for the Savage Axis long action turns an affordable, accurate factory Axis into a modern precision rifle. Machined from 6061-T6 aluminum with V-block bedding, it free-floats the barrel, converts the rifle to AICS detachable magazines and adds tool-less length-of-pull and cheek adjustment. Custom Cerakoted in bright Robin's Egg Blue by Pete's Pillars.
The Savage Axis is known for shooting well out of the box, but its lightweight factory stock flexes, limits accessories and makes the rifle feel basic. The Oryx fixes all of that. It locks the action into a rigid V-block bedding system and free-floats the barrel, so point of impact stays consistent shot after shot and season after season. Overmolded panels keep it comfortable in the cold, and AICS magazines make loading fast and quiet.
It's equally at home on a hunting rifle in .270, .30-06 or .25-06, a long-range setup or a range practice gun. Start with a capable chassis, then add only what you need as the rifle evolves.

Which rifles does it fit?
It fits the right-hand Savage Axis long action, in cartridges such as .270 Win, .30-06 and .25-06. It does not fit the Savage 110, which uses a separate Oryx model.
Which magazines do I need?
The Oryx converts your Axis to long-action AICS magazines (sold separately). Match the magazine to your cartridge length; contact us with your caliber and we'll help you choose.
Is a grip included?
Yes. The Oryx includes a grip, and it accepts AR-15 style grips if you prefer a different feel.
Can I add an ARCA rail?
What does the Pete's Pillars Rear Buttstock Weight add?
The Oryx Rear Buttstock Weight adds two side QD sling cups, frees the bottom-rear M-LOK slot for a bag rider and adds a net 5.4 oz of rear weight (7.3 oz versus the 1.9 oz original), helpful for managing recoil.
Is the Robin's Egg Blue finish custom?
Yes. It's custom Cerakoted by Pete's Pillars, with fast in-stock lead times on most builds. As with any hand-applied Cerakote, shade may vary slightly from images and between parts.
