Precision-Machined A2 Tool Steel
Volquartsen manufactures its Exact Edge Extractors from A2 tool steel using wire EDM technology. This process produces a precisely defined extraction hook with consistent geometry.
The extractor is hardened to approximately RC 54–56, helping the hook maintain its edge through repeated cycling.
Compared with the factory extractor, Volquartsen's sharper hook geometry is designed to maintain more positive engagement with the cartridge rim as the spent case is withdrawn from the chamber.
Designed for Reliable Extraction
Failures to extract can interrupt an otherwise dependable rimfire firearm. A worn extractor hook may lose engagement with the cartridge rim before the spent case reaches the ejector.
The Exact Edge Extractor addresses this with its hardened construction and carefully formed hook.
Volquartsen also machines a small bevel into the bottom edge of the extractor. This intentional design feature helps prevent interference with the next cartridge as it feeds from the magazine.
While ammunition, chamber condition, and other components can also contribute to cycling problems, replacing a worn or poorly engaging extractor is a sensible part of diagnosing extraction issues.
